Bar Mitzvah

Wow, have not written a post here in ages.  We (or I) have been super busy between rockets, drones, friends and family sent back and forth to the war front, preparing for our eldest son's bar mitzvah. For months we felt conflicted how to celebrate and dance when there's been so much pain and turmoil. The death of Sinwar and future security helped that a bit. And of course, the 60 friends that came to make the event as happy as possible.  Having our son read under palm tree branches and here in Israel, is something we truly feel is a blessing and a merit. Hope we continue to pinch ourselves to wonder how we've come to this milestone and 5 years here.

Day 3

Driving here is actually terrifying. Let's get that straight. This morning we signed up for a Rav Kav which is like a Metro or Charlie card. To get the first one is free, otherwise if you lose it, the cost (if I remember) is 10 Shekel. Getting it was very easy. You simply need your Teudat Zehut and Oleh card for everything. It's a little strange when compared to the United States. I'm not sure yet which system has it better, worse or it's just different. After that, we checked to sign up for Kindergarten. The lady wasn't there. We waited. Waited. And waited some more. In the end, we decided it best to send her an email and make a proper appointment. Have yet to receive a response. If you're not stressed for time, it isn't a big deal. In fact, it is interesting to see just how different these offices operate. Kalaniyot

The poppy seed flower has made its way into the field of Israel!  Not far from Beit Shemesh is a Tel that overlooks much of the area. Often Israelis enjoy hiking alongside these flowers and taking photographs. One child wasn't too thrilled to leave the house (by now, the weather has become hotter and they are used to being inside). We made up for it by sitting on a rock, talking about caterpillars and rattlesnakes. The younger two continued up the hill to see more of the view.  A memory resurfaced of my mother singing the song by Shoshana Damari, Kalaniyot and a specific verse spoke volumes to me: אֶת הַפְּרָחִים לִצְרוֹר הִיא תְּלַקֵּט לָהּ, וּבַשְּׁבִילִים הַמִּתְכַּסִּים בְּטַל אֶל אִמָּא הִיא נֶחְפֶּזֶת וְקוֹרֵאת לָהּ... כלניות כלניות Funny how these memories pop up here and there, reigniting the acute loss, even amongst the gleaming smiles and growth that keeps us oddly going.
